Port Orange
is proud to host the annual, all-volunteer organized and directed “Family Days.” This four-day festival began in 1996 with 15,000 attending; today it draws over 60,000 visitors. The city of Port Orange bills Family Days as “a celebration of Community Spirit and Civic Pride.” It’s held around the lake at the Port Orange City Center, and includes a family-oriented carnival with rides and games, food and arts and crafts vendors, many different entertainment venues featuring both professional and amateur talent. Imagine a day of family fun, watching a parade, riding the carousel with the kids, face painting, eating cotton candy and corn dogs and a canoe or kayak ride around the lake. Businesses in the area have booths, offering all sorts of information on a variety of topics. Sidewalks become canvas for local artists who create fabulous chalk drawings. There’s also the annual recognition of the “Person of the Year,” and parades that showcase schools and clubs in the region. End your day with “Movies Under the Stars,” at the Parker Amphitheater at the City Center. Reminiscent of old-fashioned drive-in movies, these movies are free to the public and begin at dusk. Bring a blanket or your own lawn chairs and sit back and enjoy the show! Popcorn and drinks are available to purchase. Movies are shown at the Parker Amphitheater seven times throughout the year.
Beginning in 2012, a new Spring Fair will also be hosted in Port Orange. It will feature many of the same fun, family events as Family Days, with a carnival, games and street performers. New things will be added, though, including a Food & Craft Fair, Pie Bake-Off, theater performances and much more.
